Resuscititating a blog….and the Beauty of Language

To be honest, I had decided to retire this blog as this blog had been on life support for the past year. Now, so why did I decide to resuscitate this blog? Well, something made me rethink this.

I was posed a question as to whether I had the chops to make a Content Writer.Well,  I think I do. I may not like to write a lot of prose, considering I had spent a couple of decades writing esoteric prose on equally cerebral art pieces, but I realise that if I just stick to visuals like I had been doing lately, I am missing something. Something that made me pursue a career as a contemporary art curator for a large part of my life.

The saying goes ” A picture says a Thousand Words”, which is true but language has its own beauty and the nuances of literature cannot sometimes be conveyed through just a picture. True, just giving visuals leaves one open to a a whole range of interpretation and justly so, sometimes a visual should just be left at it is. Yet, at times, the beauty of language can prompt one to visualize in one’s imagination the whole range of a particular subject.

Take for example, the prose in a song. The depths of emotion and feeling one ascends to can be extended through language. Notwithstanding that a song can appeal just by the pure music and vocals and expression the singer puts into the song, but the passion and expression finds better purchase though the lyrics of the song too

This was brought home to me when I listen to the song, Keijijou Ryuuse (Metaphysical Meteor ) by Buck Tick. Some comments by You Tubers were that the song or vocals sound forced because of the singer’s expression and they didn’t like that. To me however, listening to that song Live, I empathize with the passion of the singer and  while music itself transends language, yet knowing the lyrics only adds to the emotional pathos of that song.

Metaphysical Meteor
Lyrics: Sakurai Atsushi
Music: Imai Hisashi
I see you’re a lost boy
Come with me
There’s no need to be afraid
At all
Step on my shadow
Come play with me
Until they can’t see us anymore

When you reach out your hand
Come look and see
When you reach out your hand
Your fingertips softly touching me

My heart is breaking
And splitting open
Surely so beautiful I could die
Ah I was dreaming
I was dreaming…

Blindfolding your eyes
Play with me
The face behind it
Who are you?

And when you speak aloud
It seems a lie
But let me hear you say it at the end
Once more, one more time

My heart is breaking
And splitting open
Surely so beautiful I could die
Its dissolution
And dissipation
Hold it tighter, tighter, hold me, hold on
My heart is breaking
And splitting open
Surely so beautiful I could die
I was dreaming
I was dreaming…

When you reach out your hand
Look out and see
When you reach out your hand
Your fingertips softly…
And when you speak aloud
It seems a lie
But let me hear you say it at the end
Once more, one more time

My heart is breaking
And splitting open
Surely so beautiful I could die
Its dissolution
Then dissipation
Hold it tighter, tighter, hold me, hold on
My heart is breaking
And splitting open
Surely so beautiful I could die
I was dreaming
I was dreaming…

La la la     la la     la la la la…

I guess this is a roundabouts way of saying, look, I am back and I haven’t totally given up on prose and that there is a whole lot of beauty in it! 🙂

The Bird & I Crafts is Relocating and this Blog will go on a short hiatus

AccchanNHide

The Bird & I Crafts is relocating from Ontario to Medicine Hat, Alberta so both the shop and this blog will go on a hiatus during our move. Probably for the whole month of April 2014 and possibly part of May too as we try to settle in.

We are rather sad to leave the Niagara region and the province of Ontario, after almost 20 years here but my hubby is taking up a job offer in a new province, so the family, which is myself and my daughter are also leaving everything behind to make this move. Of course our furry family is coming with us, so it will be quite a menagerie that we will be travelling with…..two exotic short hair cats, named MeMe and MJ (aka Floppy), a dwarf hamster named Hammy and two goldfish.

Still I am sure, once we are settled in, we will be back with fresh insights and new pieces and designs where the shop is concerned and lots of new things to share in this blog as well.

Till then, people have a Great Spring!

And I just have to leave you guys with this raw photo of Atsushi Sakurai and Hidehiko Hoshino of Buck Tick…finger lickin’good!

This blog went on a longer hiatus then I expected when I finally closed my Etsy store for a little down time during Christmas and New Year. Instead of some R&R, I ended being sick as a dog for the most part…so much for well laid plans…..

So this little post on Buck Tick’s DIQ 2013 is a little picker upper for myself….as I get to enjoy the live report of the DIQ 2013 from NotTheGreatest Site and sort of get to experience this concert albeit vicariously and also enjoy the DIQ 2013 tour goods which Cayce kindly purchased on my behalf

http://notgreatestsite.net/

For BT fans here though NicoNico will be streaming the Koriyama performance of the  DIQ 2013 on Jan 24th at their site and there is a full week of B-T programmes starting Jan 18th to the 24th 2014 showcasing B-T’s concert performances which is still available to watch on NicoNico’s site

http://ch.nicovideo.jp/BUCK-TICK?pushmail

I am so looking forward to seeing one of the DIQ 2013 performance and can’t wait for B-T to annouce their tour dates for 2014 as I mean to realise my dream of seeing BT live this year! The hard work over last year’s jewelry season and even being awfully sick for more then a month will be well worth it…..

My Buck Tick Christmas tree……Happy Holidays Everyone!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

This is my Buck Tick inspired Christmas tree! 😀

Well, this year, the Bird & I was worked to the bones and we didn’t get the time to do any Christmas shopping.

When we downsized and moved into our little apartment, one of the things we had to let go off , was our 6 foot Christmas tree and all our Christmas decorations. We had made do with a tiny table top “potted tree” for the last couple of years, but this year we went and bought a 4 foot tree…still table top but it was a TREE. Unfortunately since Black Friday, the Bird & I was worked to the bones and I didn’t have time to get any ornaments for our tree…..

What I did have was my B-T guitar picks, and jewelry stuff…so I made these into my Christmas tree ornaments…..I made large glass cabochon charms of BT images, also inserted photo image of Sakurai-san into an “Angel” themed Christmas tree photo ornament….(didn’t have time to find another angel or a star….. rather unusual role for Sakurai-san but hey, he has the looks of an angel…rather decadent one but still……) also other B-T images into picture frame ornaments as well as photo images of my cats and ice cream and soda cup charms from my jewelry stash as ornaments…..

Hope you guys like my Christmas tree as much as I do!

You can also visit her blog at http://www.hartleyworks.wordpress.com

I think anyone visiting my blog would definitely encounter photos of Atsushi Sakurai, especially since you can’t actually miss it, photos of Acchan being the background for my blog!

That I am a total fan girl of B-T and Atsushi Sakurai goes without saying. I love their music, the mad genius of Imai Hisashi, lead guitar, primary composer and backup vocals, Hidehiko Hoshino, 2nd guitar, composer and back up vocals as well as Higuchi Yutaka, bass guitar and Yagami Toll, drums and especially front man, vocalist and primary lyricist of the band, Sakurai Atsushi.

Not only does Sakurai have the voice to totally captivate me, the deepest, richest liquid baritone ever but he also has the particular looks to completely ensnare me!

A lot of times, it is said, beauty is in the eye of  the beholder but there are people who are born with that perfect symmetry of looks which adds up to good looks and then there are people who not only have the 2nd quality in abundance but also have that indefinable something that is charisma as well.

To me, Atsushi Sakurai has all that and more in limitless quantities and Dori Hartley’s renditions of Sakurai has captured that perfectly

Needless to say, I have purchased postcards , journals and poster from Hartleyworks depicting Sakurai and the quality of print of those works are awesome!

So, if you are a fan, you might want to check out Hartleyworks artworks of Atsushi Sakurai!
